Gelila is a global diaspora loyalty and community platform operated by Kelela Media LLC, a Colorado limited liability company. We can be reached at hello@gelila.io or gelila.io.
We collect information you provide directly: your name, email address, phone number, city, and community identity when you create a Gelila account. We also collect information about your activity on the platform — events you attend, businesses you interact with, G Coins you earn and redeem, and rewards you use.
We use your information to: create and manage your Gelila account, send you verification codes and important account updates, personalize your experience (showing you events and businesses relevant to your community), award and track your G Coins balance, and connect you with diaspora businesses and opportunities.
G Coins are a loyalty currency that exists only within the Gelila platform. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money. They can only be earned through actions on Gelila and redeemed within the Gelila rewards marketplace with participating partner businesses.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share aggregated, anonymized data (for example, "500 Ethiopian diaspora members in Minnesota") with advertising partners and researchers. We never share your individual name, email, or phone number without your explicit consent. When you redeem a reward, the business receives only your name to fulfill the reward.
Your community identity (for example, "Ethiopian" or "Nigerian") is used to personalize your Gelila experience and to provide aggregated community insights to partners. This information is never used to discriminate against you.
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure database storage via Supabase, and email verification to confirm your identity. We do not store passwords — we use one-time verification codes instead.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time. To request deletion of your account and data, email us at hello@gelila.io with the subject line "Delete my account." We will process your request within 30 days.
Gelila uses your browser's local storage to keep you logged in between sessions. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Gelila is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us at hello@gelila.io.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the Gelila platform. Continued use of Gelila after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
